Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp (3,000 m) – The Adventure Begins

After breakfast at your lodge, you’ll depart for Machame Gate, enjoying a scenic 1.5 to 2-hour transfer through lush coffee farms, banana plantations, and small villages. At the gate (approx. 1,800 m), complete park registration, meet your mountain crew, and savor fresh fruit before shouldering your pack.

Your trek sets off into the montane rainforest, where towering trees, dense ferns, and lyrical birdcalls accompany your ascent. The trail winds steadily uphill over 11 km (6.8 miles), gaining roughly 1,200 m in altitude. Along the way, pause for rest breaks and to admire views of Machame Valley below. After 5–7 hours on the trail, you’ll reach Machame Camp at 3,000 m, nestled on a forested ridge with misty valley vistas. Here, you can relax in your tent, sip hot tea, and share summit stories around dinner before falling asleep to the sounds of the African night.
